Roofing Contractor in Ventura County, CA

Distance dominates any plan to hire a roofing contractor in Ventura County, CA: by our estimate Simi Valley is about 40 minutes from Van Nuys, Thousand Oaks about 55, Oxnard about 85 and Ventura about 90. The county splits into hillside Conejo and Simi tracts, flat Oxnard Plain neighborhoods near the ocean, and river-valley towns such as Fillmore and Ojai, and each of the three asks something different of a roof.

Conejo and Simi hillsides, Oxnard Plain salt air and the river-valley towns

Ventura County is three roofing markets on one map. Thousand Oaks was incorporated in 1964 and sits at 900 feet in the Conejo Valley, about 12 miles from the ocean, with a third of the city kept as open space. Hillside streets there back onto brush and oaks, which means leaf-heavy gutters and debris in valleys. Simi Valley is hotter and inland, with large tracts from the 1960s through the 1990s.

Tract timing matters. Moorpark grew by more than 20,000 people in the 1980s, and neighborhoods built together tend to age together. When one roof on the street fails, the neighbors' roofs are often close behind.

The Oxnard Plain is flat farmland and shoreline. Oxnard, Camarillo, Port Hueneme and much of Ventura sit here, where fog and salt air work on metal parts. The county's annual temperature range runs 70 to 80°F on the coastal plain but as much as 100°F inland, so a Fillmore roof flexes through bigger swings than an Oxnard one.

Roofing after the Thomas and Woolsey fires

The 2018 Woolsey Fire destroyed 1,643 structures by CAL FIRE's count, and it burned across the Ventura and Los Angeles county line. The 2017 Thomas Fire burned above Ventura and around Ojai. Rebuilt and re-roofed homes in those areas are judged on fire rating before looks.

A new state wildfire building code, the Wildland-Urban Interface Code, has applied since January 2026, and fire hazard maps were redrawn in 2025. We cannot tell you a zone from here. Your building office and CAL FIRE's online viewer can.

Highway 126, the Santa Clara River and the forest edge

Los Padres National Forest makes up 53 percent of the county's land, most of it north of Highway 126. That road follows the Santa Clara River valley through Fillmore and Santa Paula, so the river towns sit with brush and national forest close behind them. Annual rainfall runs 10 to 15 inches at the northern and southern ends of the county, and more than 33 inches in the Topatopa Mountains above Ojai, so a hillside roof there sees far more water than a beach one.

The Thomas Fire burned about 281,893 acres and destroyed at least 1,063 structures before it was contained in January 2018. Only 10 cities are incorporated, so check whether your address answers to a city or to the county.

Ventura County Building and Safety, city departments and the county line

Unincorporated communities such as Oak Park, Lake Sherwood and Bell Canyon go through Ventura County Building and Safety. Cities including Simi Valley, Camarillo and Oxnard run their own departments. The line moves things quickly: Thousand Oaks borders Westlake Village on its east side, and Westlake Village is in Los Angeles County, so two roofs a few blocks apart can sit under different offices.

The same state rules apply on both sides. A roof with two coverings must come off before a new one goes on, and big re-roofs generally bring in cool-roof requirements.

Driving to Ventura County from Van Nuys

Our estimate puts Oak Park and Simi Valley about 40 minutes away, Thousand Oaks and Moorpark about 55, Camarillo about 70, Oxnard about 85, Ventura about 90 and Ojai about 95. The 101 sets the real number, so ask for a time on the call.

Roofing questions from Ventura County

Which Ventura County cities can you reach from Van Nuys?

We cover Simi Valley, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Ventura, Fillmore, Santa Paula and Ojai, plus unincorporated communities such as Oak Park and Lake Sherwood. Simi Valley and Oak Park are nearest at about 40 minutes by our estimate. Oak View and Mira Monte are the farthest, at about 100.

Who issues roof permits in Thousand Oaks versus Oak Park?

Thousand Oaks is a city, so a re-roof there goes to the city's own building department. Oak Park is unincorporated, so its permits run through Ventura County Building and Safety. The contract should name who holds the permit, and before pricing we confirm which office covers your lot.

Does salt air near Oxnard and Port Hueneme change roof choices?

Yes. Marine air corrodes exposed metal such as flashing, vent caps and fasteners, and the Oxnard Plain adds fog and damp. We ask about those parts when we look at a coastal roof, and for beachfront condos we talk through corrosion-resistant fasteners and metal details.

Do homes near the Thomas and Woolsey burn areas need a fire-rated roof?

The answer turns on which fire hazard severity zone your lot is in. A Class A roof covering is required in the Very High zone, while other designated zones fall under California's wildfire building rules. CAL FIRE's online map lookup, updated in 2025, shows where your lot sits, and the building office confirms what applies.
